Question Answer
Metabolic Pathways a sequence of small steps that form chemical reactions (can be a chain or cycle)
Activation energy the amount of energy required to reach the transition stage from substrate into product
Competitive inhibitors interfere with the active site, the enzyme is temporarily occupied
Non-competitive inhibitors bind at a location other than the active site, they change the shape of the enzyme
Effect of competitive inhibitor it takes a higher concentration to reach the maximum rate, but it can get there
Effect of non-competitive inhibitor the enzyme doesn't reach the maximum rate of reaction because some enzymes cannot react (shape change) but it follows the same pattern as a uninhibited enzyme
Graph of competitive, non-competitive, and uninhibited enzymes
End-product inhibition when the end product of the pathway acts as an inhibitor
Allosteric interactions when enzymes regulated by chemical substances bind to special sites on the enzyme away from the active site
Allosteric sites where allosteric interactions take place
