Flashcards
Wireless Architectures and AP Modes
Cards in this deck (14)
- 1Mode: Local mode. This is the default mode. Measures noise, interference, discovers rogue devices, and checks for matches against IDS events.
- 2Mode: Monitor mode.Doesn't transmit at all, it is dedicated solely to monitoring the environment. It's a dedicated sensor that checks IDS events, detects rogue APs, and determines the position of wireless stations.
- 3Mode: Flexconnect:Allows you to locally switch traffic between a VLAN and an SSID when the CAPWAP tunnel to the WLC is down.
- 4What is an AP sniffer? An AP sniffer is a remote wireless sniffer that tracks the traffic over a WLAN.
- 5Describe autonomous APs:Are self contained. Each AP must be configured and monitored individually. Each AP must have an IP management address, and each autonomous AP handles it's own security policies, with no central point of entry between the wireless and wired networks.
- 6Describe cloud-based AP architectures:APs in this architecture are centrally managed from the cloud. Each AP will contact the cloud when it powers up and self configure. From the cloud, you are able to manage and configure APs, monitor wireless performance activity, and generate reports.
- 7Describe split MAC architectures:Includes the data and control planes. The workload is split between the AP and WLC. The control plane is the traffic used to control, configure, manage, and monitor the AP itself. Supports RF management, association and roaming management, client authentication, security management, and QoS.
- 8Mode: Bridge mode:An AP becomes a dedicated bridge between two networks. Two APs in bridge mode can be used to link two locations separated by distance. Multiple AOs in bridge mode can form an indoor and outdoor mesh.
- 9Mode: Rogue:An AP dedicates itself to detecting rogue devices by correlating MAC addresses heard on the wired network with those heard wirelessly. Rogue devices appear on both networks.
- 10Mode: Se-connect:The AP dedicates it's radios to spectrum analysis on all wireless channels. You can remotely connect a PC running software like Wireshark to the AP to collect and analyze the spectrum analysis data to discover sources of interference.
- 11Mode: Sniffer:An AP mode that dedicates it's radios to receiving 802.11 traffic from other sources, much like a sniffer or packet capture device. The captured traffic is then forwarded to the PC running network analyzer software where it can be analyzed further.
- 12Mode: Flex+Bridge Mode:The AP can operate in either flexconnect or bridge/mesh mode. This AP combines the two; it allows APs in mesh mode to use flexconnect capabilities.
