CPU CPU = CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT Called the central processor or the processor. The CPU is the brains of the computer where most calculations take place.
RAM RAM = Random Access Memory a type of data storage used in computers. ie. when you copy, it is held in RAM. All information stored in RAM is lost when the computer is turned off.
CACHE Cache memory is a fast memory type acting as a buffer between RAM and CPU. Cache holds frequently requested data such as log in details that are available to the CPU as needed. Cache memory is used to speed up basic PC functions.
ROM ROM = Read Only Memory. ROM is a built in memory where the data can only be read, not written to. It is used to store the start-up instructions for a PC, also known as the firmware.
HDD HDD = Hard Disc Drive or Hard Drive. HDD or HD is a storage device used to store data permanently.
