Cards in this deck (2)

  1. 1COMPULSORY Stickgold and Walker (2013) - Sleep-dependent memory triageEarly work assumed uniformity of improvement, but there appears to be selectivity.

Incentive and directed forgetting alter saliency
    - time-sensitive instructions.
No cases of consolidation without integration.
    Item integration assimilates information
    - spindles for lexicon, REM for remote associates.
Multi-item generalization = extraction of information
    - DRM paradigm.
Application of memory transformation is selective
    - Choose between 2 apparently good options. More insight after sleep (22% up to 59%) - other 41% automatized task.

REM SD = loss of hc plasticity (Davis et al., 2003).
SD prior to learning impairs positive and neutral memory formation, but not negative (Walker and Stickgold, 2006).
SD impairs post-learning retention too (Beaulieu and Godbout, 2000).
Chronic sleep restriction produces more emotional disturbances (Dinges et al., 1997).
Sleep resets affective brain reactivity (Baran et al. 2012).
