What is the Trinity? > Although Christianity is monotheistic there are 3 ways God manifests Godself Father, son and holy spirit Father creates/son redeems/ spirit inspires. >Each of these is completely distinct and also completely the same as each other
What does St Augustine say about the Trinity? In his work 'De trinitate' Augustine says > gives an analogy to explain the trinity using the idea of love > 3 things are needed for love; love, giver and receiver. >This is like the Trinity because 3 persons are united in love > 'There are 3 things in love, as it were a trace of the Trinity.
What is meant by Incarnation and how does this show an omnibenevolent God? > Incarnation - 'enfleshed' God became human in the person of Jesus >God does this in order to save humanity from sin > God gives of himself in the person of Jesus and pays the price for sin - thus he is all loving.
How is Jesus the 'suffering servant'? > fulfils the Prophecy told in Isaiah > 'He will be led like a lamb to the slaughter' Jesus is the ;lamb of God who makes the sacrifice for sin. > 'Through his wounds we are healed' - Jesus takes away our sins as he is the atonement
What is the meaning of the death of Jesus? What does the death of Jesus on the cross show/teach us? >God suffers so God understands human suffering and is with us when we suffer > The death of Jesus must happen for the Resurrection - we too may need to suffer for great goodness > Suffering unites us to Jesus >Suffering can lead us to be more compassionate; can make us stronger
Describe the PIETA By MichelAngelo >Shows Mary holding lifeless Jesus >Mary is cradling Jesus as she would a child/infant >sorrow and pain at the loss of her son
What does the Pieta teach about suffering >Jesus' goodness as he sacrified his life for us >Jesus' face is not twisted or in pain - he has redeemed humanity from suffering >Everyone will face death >Everyone will experience grief and loss >BUT evil and suffering are conquered by goodness
