The breakdown of the Nervous System
Different types of Declarative Memory (with examples) Declarative memory is “knowing that”, for example knowing that the earth is round, knowing that you were born on 17th March etc.  Semantic Memory relates to academic knowledge/facts. The blue example above is considered a Semantic Memory, as it is factual.  Episodic Memory relates to personal memories. The pink example above is considered an Episodic Memory, as it is both knowledgeable and relates purely to your life.
Types of Recall Recall - Being asked to reproduce information with the fewest possible cues  Free recall - asked to remember as much as possible in no particular order, for example, a list of groceries.  Serial Recall - Asked to recall information in a particular order, for example, itinerary names of cities  Cued Recall - Given a cue then asked to recall, for example, reciting the Seven Dwarfs
What is the Visuospatial Sketchpad? • The Visuospatial Sketchpad is responsible for the temporary storage of manipulation of visual and spatial information. Recognition is a more sensitive measure.
Define the Phonological Loop, the Central Executive and the Episodic Buffer
What is the role of the Hippocampus? The Hippocampus is a finger-sized curved structure that lies in the medial temporal lobes. It is responsible for consolidation of explicit (declarative) memories and acts to transfer these to other parts of the brain for storage as long-term memory.
What is the Explicit/Implicit Memory? • Implicit Memory is the storage of things that we don’t purposely try to remember • Explicit Memory is the storage of things that we intentionally try to remember (such as a formula or homework you have).
What is the difference between Retrograde and Anterograde Amnesia?
