Flashcards
GCSE OCR Physics - P4

Cards in this deck (27)
- 1How do you calculate speed?

- 2What is speed?A measurement of how far something travels in a given time (normally 1 second)
- 3What is average speed? The speed measured when an object travels a known distance for a noticeable amount of time.
- 4What is instantaneous speed? An average speed over a very short time interval. Useful for determining changes in speed.
- 5What is displacement? Both distance and displacement measurements are an indication of how far away you are from a point.
- 6Draw a sketch to show the difference between distance and displacement.

- 7What is a displacement-time graph?A graph that shows the change of displacement of an object from a point over time.
- 8Here is a displacement-time graph. What does the horizontal section and increasing steepness mean?☺Horizontal - the object is stationary.
☺Increasing steepness - the object is accelerating.
- 9What is acceleration?A measurement of the rate of increase or decrease in velocity.
- 10How can you calculate acceleration?Change in velocity is Final velocity - Initial velocity.

- 11What is constant velocity?Speed that does not get larger or smaller or change direction.
- 12How will a balanced force move.It will remain stationary, unless it is already moving. it that case it would continue moving at a constant rate and in a straight line.
- 13How would an unbalanced force move?It would accelerate in the direction of the larger force.
- 14Here is a free-body force diagram. Describe the resultant force. The size of the total force is
30N-10N = 20N. The force pulling the ball down is clearly bigger, so the object will accelerate down.
- 15What are interaction pairs? They occur when objects are touching. they are always of exactly equal size, opposite direction, and each act on and are created by different objects.
- 16How is a space rocket launched?1. Liquid fuel is burnt in engine.
2. This makes exhaust gas.
3. Gas expand in engine and is pushed backwards out of rocket.
4.Interaction pair force is created and it pushes rocket forwards.
5. Forward force launches rocket. - 17How do you calculate change in momentum?

- 18How do you calculate momentum?

- 19Why do crumple zones, airbags, and seatbelts save lives? They extend the duration of the impact, making the impact force smaller and decreasing the chances of tissues and bones being damaged.
- 20What different types of energy are there?☺Kinetic
☺Chemical
☺Thermal
☺Elastic
☺Sound
☺Nuclear
☺Light
☺Gravitational Potential Energy (GPE) - 21Describe the energy transfer when pushing a rolly chair and lifting a book.Pushing a rolly chair:
Chemical energy -> Kinetic energy
Lifting a book:
Cemical -> Kinetic -> GPE - 22What is work done?A measurement of how much energy is required when force moves on an object.
- 23How do you calculate work done?

- 24How do you calculate weight?

- 25How do you calculate GPE?

- 26What is kinetic energy? When work is done to set an object moving, energy may be transferred to kinetic energy.
- 27Work done = Kinetic energy. But how do you calculate kinetic energy?
