Cards in this deck (12)
- 1what is an algorithm?a set of instructions that a computer can follow
- 2what is meant by the term: decomposition?breaking down a large problem into smaller easier problems
- 3what is abstraction?removing unnecessary detail from a problem
- 4what does this code do?it will give the user a result as to whether or not a student has passed

- 5what is a search algorithm?a set of instructions for finding a specific data or data set
- 6what are the two types of search algorithms?linear
binary - 7what is a sort algorithm?a set of instructions for sorting data into an order
- 8what are the two types sort algorithms?merge
bubble - 9how does linear search work?checks every item in the dataset in order
- 10how does binary search work?it splits the dataset in half until a specific item is found
- 11how does bubble sort work?compares the first 2 items in a dataset and will order them. It continues with the rest of the dataset until the whole dataset is ordered.
- 12how does merge sort work?splits list into individual data chunks and will sort chunks into groups of 2. it will then continue merging these groups until dataset is ordered.
