Cards in this deck (13)
- 1What is meant by the term: Algorithim?A set of instructions a computer can follow
- 2What is meant by the term: Decompostion?Breaking down a problem into smaller, more manageable problems
- 3What is meant by the term: Abstraction?Removing unnecessary details from a problem
- 4What do these shapes represent in a Flow diagram? OVAL DIAMOND RECTANGLEStart or End of a program
A Decision
A Process - 5What is Pseudocode used for?It is used to plan algorithm's, focusing on logic and steps rather than language-specific syntax
- 6What is a Search Algorithm?A set of instructions for finding a specific item of data for a data set
- 7What are two examples of a search algorithm?Linear search
Binary search - 8How does Linear search work? What are the Pros and Cons?It checks every item in the dataset in order
Pros: Easy to implement
Cons: Slow on a long list - 9How does Binary search work? what are the Pros and Cons?It splits the dataset in half until the specific item is found
Pros: Faster than linear on a large dataset
Cons: Dataset must be sorted into order before sorting - 10What is a sort algorithm?A set of instructions to arrange a dataset into a particular order
- 11What are two examples of sort algorithm?Merge sort
Bubble sort - 12How does Bubble sort work? What are the Pros and Cons?it compares the first two items and swaps them if they are the wrong way round, it continues for the rest of the set
Pros: Easy to implement
Doesn't use much memory
Cons: Poor for efficiency - 13How does Merge sort work? What are the Pros and Cons?splits lists into individual data chunks and sorts into groups of two. it will continue for rest of set
Pros: Very efficient
Cons: slower for small lists
needs additional memory
