Paper 2 - Interpreters and Assemblers, Compilers
Cards in this deck (7)
- 1What are Translators?A program that converts code from one language to another
- 2What are the Characteristics of a Compiler?- Translates all the code at once into machine code
- 3What are the Characteristics of a Interpreter?- Translates code line by line, if any syntax errors are detected interpreting will be stopped
- 4What are the advantages of a Compiler? After Translation, The compiler and source code are no longer needed, program can be distributed without the source code
- Can be directly executed, so can be immediately run - 5What are the Disadvantages of a compiler?More Memory is needed as the whole code is translated in one go
-Code must be re-compiled every time code is changed
- Error messages only show up after the code is compiled, making it time consuming to find the errors - 6What are the Advantages to Interpreters?- Errors can be spotted quickly
-less memory is needed as instructions are not stored - 7What are the disadvantages to interpreters?- Does not produce an executable file
- slow as CPU has to wait for each line to be interpreted before it can be executed
