Splinting Lightweight splints to rest inflamed joint and prevent deformity from muscle spasms and contractures. Remove splints at regular intervals, give skin care, preform ROM exercises, after reapply as prescribed
Stiffness Care Plan care around morning stiffness, sitting or standing in warm shower, sitting in tub with warm towels around shoulders, soaking hands in warm basin
REST Total Bed Rest Bed Flexion vs. Extension Pillow under knees alternating periods of rest relieves pain, rest BEFORE exhaustion, NO total bed rest even mild disease needs daytime rest and 8-10 hours of sleep modify activities to avoid overexertion meal prep while sitting in a stool in front of sink. Firm mattress or bed board Encourage extension not Flexion decrease contracture by NEVER placing pillow under knee. EVER!!! only small flat pillow under head and shoulders
