- 1QUESTIONNAIREA questionnaire is a research instrument that consists of a set of questions or other types of prompts that aims to collect information from a respondent. Questionnaires can be thought of as a kind of written interview.
- 2RESPONSE BIASIt is defined as the tendency in respondents to answer untruthfully or inaccurately. It often occurs when participants are asked to self-report on behaviors, but can also be caused by poor survey design.
- 3DOUBLE BARRELED QUESTIONIt is committed when someone asks a question that touches upon more than one issue, yet allows only for one answer. This may result in inaccuracies in the attitudes being measured for the question, as the respondent can answer only one of the two questions, and cannot indicate which one is being answered.
- 4LEADING QUESTIONLeading question is a type of question that pushes respondents to answer in a specific manner, based on the way they are framed. More than often, these questions already contain information that survey creator wants to confirm rather than try to get a true and an unbiased answer to that question.
- 5LIKERT SCALEIt is a unidimensional scale that researchers use to collect respondents’ attitudes and opinions. Researchers often use this psychometric scale to understand the views and perspectives towards a brand, product, or target market.
- 6JARGONIs the specialized vocabulary of any profession, trade, science, or hobby. Jargon refers to the specialized language of a professional or occupational group. While this language is often useful or necessary for those within the group, it is usually meaningless to outsiders.
- 7PILOT TESTINGIt is a rehearsal of your research study, allowing you to test your research approach with a small number of test participants before you conduct your main study. Although this is an additional step, it may be the time best spent on any research project.
