RM Hypothesis part 3
Cards in this deck (37)
- 1What is hypothesis testing?determining whether a hypothesis is supported by the result of a research study
- 2What is a null hypothesis?a hypothesis in which the research tries to falsify, reject or nullify
- 3What is an alternative hypothesis?the original hypothesis
- 4Differences are there because of chance. Defines the null or alternative hypothesisNull
- 5Assuming that there is no difference between the null hypothesis, you reject it to claim thatthe data supports the alternative hypothesis
- 6In inferential statistics we are trying to rejectthe null hypothesis
- 7What is a one tailed hypothesis?directional hypothesis, there is a specific difference
- 8What is a two tailed hypothesis?Non directional and there is a difference
- 9If differences in sample means are large enough then it is likely to be caused bychance
- 10What is inferential analyses?make inferences in data to test the hypothesis. Determine likelihood that results are real rather than chance
- 11Type 1 error isRejecting the null hypothesis when in reality it is true. Saying there is significant differences when there is not
- 12Type 2 error isNot rejecting the null hypothesis when in reality it is false. Saying there is no differences when there is
- 13Statistical significancean observed result is unlikely to have occurred by chance
- 14What is alpha level?level of significance
- 15Alpha level states that if a score has a 5% chance of occurring it is unlikely toreject the null hypothesis
- 16The bigger the alpha level the more likely we are to finda significant result
- 17How to increase the chance of a type 1 errorincrease alpha level
- 18P value is a number between0-1
- 19Small P value is <.05 indicatesstrong evidence so reject null hypothesis
- 20Large P value >.05 indicatesweak evidence, fail to reject null hypothesis
- 21What is a T test?comparing two means from 2 difference samples or groups
- 22T-test need to know the difference betweenthe means and distribution of two samples
- 23What is the critical region of t-tests if the alpha level is .05?1.96
- 24If the t-test falls between the critical region (1.96) you canreject the null hypothesis
- 25T-test distribution isif the value of your t-test falls between the critical region you can reject the null hypothesis
- 26What is an Anova test?To see whether there are any significant differences between 3 or more independent groups
- 27What is an inflated error?increased chance of getting a significant effect due to chance. Only 5% for each test
- 28Does the ANOVA test tell the which groups means are different?no
- 29Between group variations aregroup differences
- 30Leftover variation isdifferences within the group
- 31How does an ANOVA test work1. Sum of squared deviations from the sample mean for all people in the sample
2. the sum squared differences between sample mean and means of each group
3. Leftover variance due to group differences from the total variance - 32What is the F statistic?ratio between group variance and leftover within group variance
- 33What is a Post Hoc TestMultiple T-tests run to see where the differences are between the groups
- 34What is a Bonferroni Testlevel of significance divided by the number of comparisons to be done
- 35What is a Chi square testassesses the goodness of fit between a set of observed values and values expected theoretically
- 36Non parametric testmakes no assumptions about distribution of data
- 37What is observed frequency?Actual numbers of people in the cell. Compares the observed and expected frequency for each cell and sum
