Cards in this deck (16)

  1. 1Council of Nicea (325 CE)The Son is eternally begotten from the Father. This means the Son has no beginning or end but is eternal.
The Father and Son have always existed together: co-eternal, co-equal, of one nature.
  2. 2Constantinople (381 CE)The Holy Spirit is the Lord, the Giver of Life
    He proceeds from the Father
He with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified
    He spoke through the prophets

  4. 4Jesus’ BaptismThe Spirit of God is shown as a dove, The Spirit comes down on Jesus reflecting the intimate relationship between Jesus and the Spirit.
Jesus is called by God the Father ‘my Son, the Beloved’. This means that the Son of God has always existed. The Son and the Father are one (as stated in John 10:30).
The Father is unseen but makes his presence felt through his Word. The Holy Spirit is the bond of love between the Father and the Son.
  5. 5Trinity in CreationThe word ‘God’ is referring to the Father. The Father is the creator.
The Hebrew word ru’ach is here translated as ‘breath’ or ‘spirit’. The presence of the Holy Spirit was involved in the act of creation.
God created by his word. God the Son is the Word of God, the creative power coming forth from the Father, but distinct from the Father and the Spirit.
God the Father, through God the Son (the Word of God), creates the universe through the power of the Holy Spirit.
  6. 6St Augustine and the Trinity“True love is: a trinity of lover, beloved and the love that binds them together into one.”
St Augustine focuses more of the relationship within the Trinity. He acknowledges that this flows outwards into the lives of believers, but believes it is the inner relationship that is essential
  7. 7Catherine LaCugna and the TrinityChrist came to earth to bring redemption
The Holy Spirit completes the task of bringing the world into the union with Christ.
Christ brings all things back to the Father.
The act of his incarnation and redemption shows how the Son, as love, comes out from God to save human beings.
Once the task is fulfilled all things are brought back to God, so that God may be ‘all in all’ – links to Cosmic Reconciliation.
  8. 8Pope Benedict XVI wrote in 2005:“’If you see charity [love], you see the Trinity
  9. 9The Mission‘Mission’ comes from the word ‘to send out’. The Church sends people out to care for the needs of other people in many ways.
those who love God must love their brothers and sisters also.” – 1 John 4:20-21

sacrosanctum "it adds delight to prayer and foister unity of mind"
  12. 12Gloria:Based on hymn of the angels, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favours!” – Luke 2:14
The Gloria is the greatest hymn of praise to God.
The Gloria is not said during the season of Advent and Lent

based on the version of Isaiah in the Temple (see Isaiah 6:1-3), when the angels cried out: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory’.
The three-fold repetition of ‘holy’ is showing that God is completely holy and mirrors the Trinity
