Why Anschluss? Part of Hitler’s Gross Deutschland’ Policy of uniting German speakers in one Reich. + he was Austrian too! Also overturning ‘hated’ Treaty of Versailles
Leader of Austrian Nazis Arthur Seyss Inquart (Hitler had him appointed Austrian Chancellor in the 1938 Anschluss)
How / why it failed? No support amongst the Austrians. Austrian military forces remained in Government control. Mussolini sent troops to the Brenner Pass (border) as a warning.
