Question Answer
Microbes are microscopical tiny organisms. They are invisible to the naked eye. They are mostly useful but some are harmful. They have been around from 3.8 billion years. Microbes can be found in the air, soil, water, in and on our bodies. There are three types, bacteria, fungi and viruses. Questions: 1. What are microbes? 2. Where can they be found? 3. What are the 3 types of microbes?
Viruses Viruses are very small particles that can infect animals and plants and make them sick. They don't have cells. They are made up of genetic materials like DNA and is coated in protein. They inject their genetic material into a cell, takes over and uses it to create more viruses. Viruses are very small and lightweight. They can float through the air, survive in water, or even on the surface of your skin. cold, measles, mumps, yellow fever, and hepatitis. Viruses can cause the flu, cold, measles, mumps, yellow fever, and hepatitis. Examples are Ebola and HIV. Questions: 1. What are viruses? 2. What are they made up of? 3. What do they do? 4. Are they harmful? 5. What can they cause? 6. Example.
Bacteria Bacteria are tiny little organisms that are everywhere around us. They are in the air, on our skin, in our bodies, in the ground, and all throughout nature. Most bacteria aren't dangerous, but some are and can make us sick. There are many good bacteria in our bodies. Some help us digest and breakdown our food and help assist our immune system in protecting us. Bacteria is also used when making foods like yogurt, cheese, pickles, and soy sauce. Examples are Cocus and Bacillus. Questions: 1. What is bacteria? 2. Where are they found? 3. Example of bacteria in: a) our body b) food 4. Example.
Fungi Fungi are a group of living organisms and they have complex cells like animals and plants. Fungi are found throughout the Earth including on land, in the water, in the air, and even in plants and animals. Some are microscopic while others can be seen with the naked eye. Many fungi are used as food such as mushrooms and truffles. Yeast, a type of fungi, is used when baking bread to help it rise and to ferment beverages. Another type is mold. They help with the decomposition of organic matter. Some fungi are used to killed bacteria that can cause infections and disease. Questions: 1. What is fungi? 2. Where are they found? 3. Can you see them? 4. Examples. 5. How are they used?
