Left Political ideas that are based on generally optimistic views about human nature and favour social change, left wingers tends to support liberty, state intervention and equality
Right Political ideas that tend to be pessimistic about human nature and oppose change, right wingers typically favour order and authority and oppose state intervention
Liberalism An ideology that is defined by a commitment to the individual, reflected in the doctrine of 'natural' or human rights
Conservatism An ideology that is defined by a 'desire to conserve', it has traditionally been suspicious of abstract principles or developed theories, preferring instead to p;ace its faith in tradition, experience and history
Socialism An ideology that covers beliefs ranging from revolutionary communism to reformist social democracy, the center idea being that people are social creatures, bond by a common humanity
Factionalism A concept to describe groups of people formed around a leader who reject the status quo and actively work against established authority within a society
Consensus politics An overlap of ideological positions between two or more parties, an agreement about fundamental policy goals that permit s disagreements on matters of detail or emphasis
Adversary politics A form of politics that is characterized by deep ideological conflicts between major parties, the parties offer rival ideological visions
