Keyword flashcards - High and Low level programming languages
Cards in this deck (10)
- 1IDE(Integrated development environment)An integrated Development Environment (IDE) provides a complete set of facilities for a computer programmer to develop a software application in a high level language.
- 2CompilerA fully developed and tested source code that can be executed to be translated to machine code (binary) in one go. This doesn't have to be used in the interpreter software.
- 3InterpreterTranslates the source code one line at a time so it could take a while. So it can be translated it has to be used in the interpreter software.
- 4DebuggerIdentifies logic errors in the source code to show the developer where they went wrong. e.g. by highlighting the incorrect word or by telling you which line is wrong
- 5Opcodethe instruction which specifies the operation needed to be carried out.
- 6OperandPart of the instruction which supplies the data needed for the operation
- 7High level languageHigh level language have the instructions written in words and are designed to be understood by humans.
- 8Low level languageLow level language can be assembly code and machine code. Assembly code instructions are written in mnemonics and with machine code the instructions are written in binary. But both are designed to be understood by the computer system.
- 9Assembly languageLow level language which closely reflects how opcodes and operands work. It is much easier to convert assembly instructions into machine code rather than high level source code
- 10Mnemonics
