Cards in this deck (13)

  1. 1What is vs what ought to bewhat is: science based approach
    - why things are the way they are, observations, scientific method
what ought to be: how things should be, making sense, thought experiments
  2. 2Why do we need to think critically?to make decision in your professional lives (speaking as an expert, completing experiments, dealing with clients) and in daily lives (weight loss ads, acting as a citizen)
  3. 3What are some problems that arise when relying on information from experts?- authority may not relate to being an expert in another area (athlete and nutrition)
    - can be biased
    - may be a subjective opinion
    - need for questioning
    - called an expert but not actually an expert
  4. 4Method of Intuition + Problems- information is accepted because it "feels right"
    - not reliable, no mechanism to separate accurate from inaccurate info
  5. 5Method of Tenacity + Problems- information is accepted as true because it has always been believed (tradition) or because superstition supports it
    - may not be accurate
    - difficult to correct in the face of evidence
  6. 6Rational Method + Problems- seeking answers by logical reasoning, uses premises and conclusions
    - cannot draw absolute conclusions if the premise id not completely true
    - people have trouble with logical reasoning

    4) write it
    5) apply it
  9. 9Bloom's TaxonomyPyramid of learning levels.
    Create (Highest level)

    Apply
    Understand
    Knowledge (Lowest level)

  11. 11What is the flow of the critical thinking process?Observations- use this to establish..
