Question Answer
What does Repiration refers to ??? It refers to as a series of chemicals changes that take place in cells to release energy.
What is Respiratory System?
How does the Respiratory sytem works?? Your respiratory system takes in air and extracts oxygen from it.
where does the air go when you breathe? It may go through your mouth, but most of it come in through your nose.
Where in the respiratory system, the air gets warmed and moistened? Nasal cavity
What happens during respiration in the nostrils? The large dust particles are filtered out as they pass through the nostrils.
What is trachea? The tube that carries air from the nose and mouth into the chest cavity.
What keeps your trachea from collapsing as you breathe in the air? Cartilage
What is alveoli? alveoli are the microscopic cluster of sacks and about 500 million of them make up our lungs.
What do alveoli provide? The alveoli provide large surface are that allows gases to be exchanged easily between the lungs and the bloodstream.
Draw an image of the respiratory system ~~~~~~~~~~~~~)))
Explain the walls of the alveoli. Walls of the alveoli are only one cell thick and they are surrounded by tiny blood vessels called capillaries.
Illustrate the process of Diffusion.
What happens when you breathe in the air? The muscles between your ribs contract, this pull the rib cage in and out. Also, the diaphgram, seperate the chest from the abdomen (contracts and flattens)
Breathing in and out (NEXT SLIDE)
How does respiration begin? It begins once the oxygen and glucose are together in a cell, these two chemicals react together to produce carbon dioxide and water, and energy is then released.
Write the word equation for respiration.
Why do we require too much oxygen and glucose? The more energy your body requires, the faster this reaction has to take place, and therefore, more oxygen and glucose are required.
What happens when you consume more energy than your body requires? The excess nutrients are converted into fat and stored in a layer under your skin, this eventually will lead you to become overweight
What happens when you take less energy than what your body requires? You use up any fat stores and lose mass. It's not a problem if you have extra mass to lose.
