Question Answer
The two types of effects are? Situational (short term) Socialisation (long term)
Name the 2 theorists linked to cognitive priming Cardwell- defenetion of cognitive priming Josephson - Hockey players who wathced a violent video (with a walkie talkie)
What is cognitive priming After watching a violent act on tv the viewer is primed to act aggressively. Scripts can be stored and recalled at a later situation in a similar circumstance
4 theorists involved in Arousal are? Bandura (arousal increases domaint behaviour) Zillman( excitation transfer model) Huesman and Moise (arousal decreased due to frequent exposure)
What is the explanation of arousal? Arousal increases the dominant behaviour in any situation. If feelings of arousal are attributed to anger then aggression is likely to result.
what is the excitation transfer model? Zillman states that arousal creates a readiness to aggress is there are appropriate circumstances
The three theorists involved in sponser effects? Wood et al (stated it was a type of demand characteristic) Heralod (association between films and violence) Liss Reinhardt (the A team)
What are sponser effects? This means that aggressive behaviour in the media is somehow perceived to be acceptable, especially if it demonstrated they indetify with or admire
The 5 names involved with s.l.t. Bandura (tv+cartoons) Philips (crime rates and televised boxing) James bulger killings (childsplay3) Stefan pakeerah (manhunt) Natrual born killers
the social learning theory? Children observe aggressive actions of media models and may later imitate these behaviours, especially when the child admires or identifies with the model. Can often occur via vicarious reinforcement
The three theroists associated with desensitisation Cumberbach (get used to tv but not real life) Belson (no evidence) Hagell and Newborn (looked at jubenille ofenders, they watched less tv)
What is the theory of desensitisation? This suggests that repeated exposure to violence in the media reduces the impact of the violence and has less impact on them.
The studies involved with evaluation? St Helena (Charlton) (intorduce tv = prosocial) Notel Study (intorduce tv = aggression) Paik and Comsak (meta analysis- correlation) Boyle (gender bias) Bandura (that's the doll we hit) Howit (justification?)
