Cards in this deck (15)

  1. 1What was our aim?Changing channel characteristics with distance downstream from the source in Carding Mill Valley, Shropshire
  2. 2How does our aim link to the spec?channel characteristics/ Bradshaw model are how it links to specification
  3. 3Why did we use rivers to investigate?Rivers are about there management and their causes and effects of flooding
  4. 4Advantages to our location?proximity to the car park, ease of access to stream and public land, data, time available, safety
  5. 5Disadvantages to our location? We didn’t do middle and lower stages of the river
  6. 6What would you put in a study area sketch?Memorise a field sketch, put North point, a ket e.g. CP for car park, scale, (contour lines, mountains)

  13. 13Equation of dischargedischarge= velocity X cross sectional area
  14. 14How do you find the velocity?Attach impeller to the hydroprop (specialist equipment). Impeller is facing upstream just under the surface and not at the bottom with no obstructions. Measure width and divide by 3 and put hydroprop in the river at these points. Time how long with a stopwatch impeller to move down 2.3m shaft and then average the 3 results.
  15. 15What was the discharge in cumecs at site 1 and 8?. Site 1- 0.05, 600m from source
