Basic plotline Leonard Shelby, suffering individual. Reverse order of actual events. Mentally damaged by brutal attack on him and his wife. Inability to remember. Drug ring with greed and revenge. Nolan : burden of making relationships between the parts of the work shifted from author to viewer.
Parallel Story plot Sammy Jankins. Wife killed by Leonard himself. Revenge motivation planted by Teddy to make him an efficient killer.
Narrative Structure 22 color and 22 BW sequences. Color is reversed. Viewer is asked to identify Leonard as subject, subjective point of view. BW, traditional, moving forward, space of second person, objective view of character.
Blending BW scenes are part of frame plot, helps understand what's happening in color. final bw scene changes to color.
Narrator Unreliable and flawed narrator. Holes and gaps in his narration. Need for target, chooses Teddy, deception of filmic representation of his character. Mistakes I for 1 while writing down Teddy's license plate number. In home, Sammy's face is replaced with Lenny's. We are duped.
