Subsidiary A company which is owned by another media company, they will have merged into a conglomerate or another subsidiary. Subsidiary companies begin as independent companies. E.g. Lucasfilm ltd who are a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company

Horizontal Intergration When a company only owns one stage of production or distribution. Also, when the company buys out or merges with another they will only take over their own area of production or distribution - they branch out into the same area. E.g Walt Disney as they own multiple film studios
Synergy When two or more things work together to benefit each other. Synergy happens when a media conglomerate releases different products to promote one another. E.g. Star Wars; The Force Awakens merchandise
Symbiosis When a company teams up with a different company in order to mutually promote one another's products. Companies often pay huge amounts of money to get their products related to a release of a blockbuster film. E.g. The Burger King Darth Vader burger
Cross-Media Ownership When a conglomerate owns different subsidiaries across different areas of the media. Ultimately this will mean that this company uses diversification and synergy to promote its products. E.g. The Walt Disney Company uses its subsidiaries in order to promote its products
Dominant Ideology The prevalent beliefs, attitudes and opinions of society. Films can help create a dominant ideology and can influence how we think about certain things. E.g. In a lot of American films, America is seen as a great country with lots of power
Cultural Imperialism When a country's culture becomes saturated by media products from another country. E.g. American films and television make up a substantial percentage of media within the UK
Homogenisation of Culture When the same kind of media products are produced creating a culture of "sameness". E.g. The multiplexes are filled with American blockbusters
