Flashcards
Resource smoothing & levelling
Cards in this deck (6)
- 1What is resource smoothing?Using float to increase/decrease resources for specific activities so peaks & troughs of resource usage are smoothed out.
Used to resolve over allocation issues.
Overall project duration is not affected. - 2What is resource smoothing also known as?Time limited resource scheduling
- 3What does splitting tasks involve?A task is started, stopped and restarted leaving a break in the middle.
Can be used to help deal with resource availability constraints.
Not recommended - creates demobilisation/remobilisation overhead & introduces delay & risk. - 4What is resource levelling?Delaying tasks so resource usage kept below specified limited.
Tasks on the critical path cannot be extended or delayed as this will delay the project end date. - 5What is resource levelling also known as?Resource limited scheduling
- 6What else can be done to resolve resource shortages?Consult with the stakeholders to:
1. Descope the project to do less
2. Seek efficiency through resource optimisation (better training & leadership to improve performance)
3. Remove bottlenecks & delays
4. Work overtime/weekends (unpopular & stress)
