What happens if you eat too much fat and carbohydrate? They get stored in the body.
Where/how are carbohydrates stored in the body? In the liver as glycerol or they are converted into fats.
How/where are fats stored in the body? They are stored under the sin as and around organs as adipose tissue.
What are proteins needed for? Growth and repair.
What is EAR? Estimated Average daily Requirement.
What is the formula for EAR? EAR in g = 0.6 x body mass in kg
What causes the illness, kwashiorkor? Lack of protein in diet.
Where is this disease common and why? In developing countries, due to overpopulation and lack of money to improve agriculture.
Name the factors that affect how much protein someone needs? -Body mass -Age -Pregnancy -Breast- feeding, (lactation)
What are first-class proteins? They are proteins that contain essential amino acids that can't be made by the body.
Where are first-class proteins found? Meat and fish.
What are second-class proteins? These are proteins that be can be made by the body, so they are not essential.
Where are second-class proteins found? Plants.
What is BMI? Body Mass Index.
What is the formula for BMI? BMI = mass in kg ÷ (height in m)2
A BMI over 30 means that person is? Obese.
If a person is underweight their BMI will be? Under 20.
