SKILL the learned ability to bring out predetermined results, with maximum certainty, often with a minimum outlay of time, energy or both
ABILITY - they are innate (genetic) we inherit them from our parents - They are enduring-remain relatively stable over time, but some improvement can occur due to training or exercise
differences between skills and abilities -Abilities are innate qualities that we are born with, which don't change (except during maturation/growth) e.g. coordination, reaction time, balance. -the use and combination of abilities underpins skill development and allow movement to occur
Types of skill -COGNITIVE: skills that involve thought processes and intellectual ability i.e tactics -MOTOR: skills that involve physical movement linked to a specific skill i.e smash in badminton -PERCEPTUAL: They involve detection and interpretation of stimuli (information) from the environment (selective attention)
Types of ability MOTOR:Underlying characteristics that contribute to moving a limb(s) successfully PERCEPTUAL MOTOR: That involve information processing-receiving, recognizing, selecting and organizing information we receive from our senses.
