Elbow Projection

Cards in this deck (16)

  1. 1Internally rotated elbow is indicated by what?If the radial head SI the ulna by more than 1/8th
  2. 2How can you tell if the distal forearm is elevated in an AP elbow?Elevating the distal forearm will draw out the olecranon from the olecranon process
  3. 3What does internally rotating the elbow demonstrate?Demonstrates the coronoid process in profile
  4. 4At what angle should the epicondyles be for a medial oblique? How can you tell if its over or under obliqued?45 degrees. Over rotation will cause the radial head to SI the ulna by more than three fourths. While under rotation will cause it to be less than three fourths.
  5. 5Purpose of an external oblique elbow? To demonstrate the radial tuberosity
  6. 6Indication of over rotation of an external obliqued elbow? The coronoid process partially superimposes the radial head. Radial tuberosity is no longer in profile
  7. 7How to obtain open capitulum-radial and trochlear coronoid process joint spacesThe CR must be at the joint space. A proximal CR will project the distal structures of the humerus onto the joint space. A distal CR will project the forearm structures onto the joint space.
  8. 8Where is the anterior fat pad located?Formed by the superimposed coronoid process and radial head and is situated anterior to the distal humerus
  9. 9What does the anterior fat pad indicate?Any change in the shape or placement of the anterior fat pad may indicate joint effusion and elbow injury
  10. 10Is the posterior fat pad visible on the lateral view? The posterior fat pad is normally obscured on a negative lateral elbow projection because of its location within the olecranon fossa
  11. 11Why is positioning important regarding the fat pads?If the elbow is not adequately flexed, these fat pads can be displaced by poor positioning instead of joint pathology
  12. 12What does the supinator fat pad indicate? The supinator fat stripe is visible parallel to the anterior aspect of the proximal radius. Displacement of this fat stripe is useful for diagnosing fractures of the radial head and neck
  13. 13What are the three concentric arcs of the lateral elbow?Trochlear sulcus, capitulum, and medial trochlea
  14. 14—Medial Trochlea
(bottom purple line is the capitulum)
    Proximal humerus is elevated
Medial Trochlea (bottom purple line is the capitulum) Proximal humerus is elevated
  15. 15What is A and B? How is this elbow positioned?A - Capitulum
    B-Medial Tochlea
Proximal humerus and distal forearm is depressed
What is A and B? How is this elbow positioned?
  16. 16How is the position of the medial epicondyle and capitulum when the distal forearm is depressedThe medial epicondyle can be seen posteriorly and the capitulum is placed anterior to the medial trochlea
