Factors Numbers multiplied together to find a product. Example: 3x6 = 18 3 and 6 are factors of 18
Prime Number A whole number greater than 1 that has exactly two factors, 1 and itself
Composite Number A whole number greater than 1 that has more than 2 factors
Multiple The product of a given factor and any whole number Example: Multiples of 3: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15,...
Fraction Equal parts of a whole
Equivalent Fractions Name the same part of a whole Example: 1/2 = 2/4
Numerator How many equal parts are described Example: 2/4 2 is the numerator
Denominator How many equal parts in all Example: 2/4 4 is the denominator
Benchmark fraction Fraction that is easy to visualize and use Examples: 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1/3
Like Denominators Fractions that have the same denominators. These can be added and subtracted. Example: 3/5 and 2/5
Mixed Number Has a whole number and a fraction Example: 1 1/2
Improper Fraction Has a numerator greater than or equal to its denominator
Decomposing Fractions Adding up different fractions to equal the same sum
