Question Answer
What is the definition of a topology? It refers to the layout of the network components: the cabling and the position of the nodes.
What are the advantages of Bus topology? It is easy to set up and is cheap.
What are the disadvantages of Bus topology? Problems with backbone can bring the whole network down. Limited distance can be covered. many data collisions slow the network down.
What are the advantages of Star topology? It is robust meaning problems with a connection doesn't affect the whole network. There are fewer data collisions than bus so it is faster.
What are the disadvantages of Star topology? It needs more expertise to maintain. It can be expensive to set up because more building work is involved and more hardware and software is needed.
What are the advantages of Ring topology? It is very fast with no collisions.
What are the disadvantages of Ring topology? Problems with the backbone can bring the whole network down. Data passes through every node making the network vulnerable to malfunctions.
