Labelling Labelling is using a category for a person's behaviour. E.g. 'lone parent' might be associated with the idea of being poor, unable to cope.
Stereotyping This is a "fixed, over generalised belief about a particular group or class of people." People use stereotypes to simplify their world, and make assumption based on their past experiences.
Addiction When a person needs a drug so they can function E.g. Alcohol. Or when they cannot stop doing an activity E.g. gambling.
Early low self-esteem The feelings we have about ourselves during early childhood, this can either give us a positive self-esteem or negative self-esteem.
Negative self-concept Self-concept is a mix between or self-image and self-esteem. Having a low self-concept can affect our confidence when interacting with others.
Stress/inability to cope Stress is known as the body's alarm reaction, and can affect a person physically and psychologically.
Depression This is a mental state, which involves an illness where a person suffers from feelings of sadness and low moods. Depression is a serious illness where day-to-day interaction is difficult.
Negative thinking Negative thinking involves someone having a negative or irrational thought.
Relationship breakdown This is a common event which happens to almost anyone. In society it is expected that having a successful relationship leads to a successful life.
Marginalisation This is where people are pushed out of society. They are often viewed as irrelevant or unimportant.
Social exclusion This is a term the government uses to describe people who are excluded from opportunities which most people are able to enjoy.
