- 1Why are raw materials a Physical Factors Affecting Global Population Distribution?These attract industry and so the area will have lots of jobs. As a result people move to these areas, making parts of them densely populated. For example, coalfields in north-east USA and north-west Europe, and oil in the Middle East.
- 2Why are Relief and altitude a Physical Factor Affecting Global Population Distribution?Flat relief is easier to build on and so settlements are more likely to grow.Steep relief is more difficult to build on and so these areas are often less accessible, so are more sparsely populated as industry and jobs can’t get there easily.Steep relief also often has thin, infertile soil which is difficult to grow crops on so people wouldn’t have moved their due to the lack of food.Temperature drops with high altitude and so the thermal growing season is too short. Therefore, people wouldn’t have settled in these areas due to the lack of food.
