Copper is a better insulator than steel.
Wood conducts better than glass. - 3Conduction in metalsMetal contains lots of free electrons. These electrons can move around at random inside the metal and hold the positive metal ions together.
Electrons diffuse (spread out) and collide with other free electrons and ions in the cooler parts of the metal.
Transfers kinetic energy to these electrons and ions. - 4Non Metallic solidAll the electrons are held in the atoms. Energy transfer only takes place because the atoms vibrate and shake each other. This is much less effective than energy transfer by free electrons.
