Flashcards

Science Exam

Sarah Tawil English 11 cards

Cards in this deck (11)

  1. 1What do these symbols represent?poisonous, corrosive, toxic, flammable, compressed gas
  2. 2Define Chemical & Physical ChangePhysical Change –changes in a substance in which no new product (chemical substance) is formed. Reversible.
    Chemical Change – are changes which result in a new substance being formed. difficult to reverse.
  3. 3How do you find density, mass and volume.D= m/v
    m=dv
    v=m/d
  4. 4Define a ColloidColloid – are mixtures where particles are evenly mixed larger than particles in a solution and smaller than suspension; however they will NOT settle out. They display the Tyndall Effect. (light is visible as it scatters and hits the particles) Colloids have properties of both a solution and a suspension
  5. 5What is suspensioninitially particles are mixed throughout. (Particles are visible bare eye or low power microscope). If suspension remains undisturbed, the particles will separate out. The larger the particles, the faster they separate.
  6. 6Periodic Table?The periodic table has 7 periods (rows).
    They are ordered according to their atomic number, which tells us how many protons are in the nucleus of the atom.
    In the periodic table there are 18 columns are called groups or famillies.
    Elements are placed in groups with similar properties.
  7. 7Element classification?Elements are classified as metals, non-metals or metalloids according to their properties:
    Malleability – the elements can be hammered into sheets (able to shape)
    Ductility – the element can be pulled into wire
  8. 8Types of circuit scalesvoltemeter & ammeter
  9. 9Between 2 light bulbs, going through the same circuit, how would you know which one receives more current?The brighter the bulb, the greater the current. (if one is new and one is old,more current and brightness will occur in the new bulb)
  10. 10What are these phases of mitosis?prophase,metaphase,anaphase,telophase
  11. 11Name and order theses phasesProphase,metaphas,anaphase,telophase
