Redi´s theory

Dr. Fransisco Redi disapproved of the theory of spontaneous generation because he developed an experiment and spread the word that it was wrong in the 17th century

This experiment consists in distributing a piece of meat in each jar. In the first jar we put a piece of meat and we don't close it with the lid, in the second jar we put the meat and we close it with a cork and for the last the third jar we put the meat and we close the jar with a little cloth, I wait for a more concrete time some weeks. I observe that in the first jar some larvae appeared, the second jar and the third one had a rotten smell but there was not a single larva, I arrive at the conclusion that the air influenced in its experiment so I carry out another one

In his second experiment Redi placed meat and fish in the jar next to a gauze and waited a while and realized that the worms did not deposit their eggs in the meat but in the gauze and this shows us why they believed in spontaneous generation
