Pain Characteristics:

-aching, cramping

Pain Characteristics:

-intermittent claudication to sharp

unrelenting, cosntant

ulcer characteristics:

-location, medial mallleolus or anterior tibial area

-pain, superficial, minimal pain

-depth, superficial

-shape, irregular border

-base, granulation tissue, beefy red to yellow fibrinous in chronic long-term ulcer

-leg edema, moderate to severe

Ulcer Characteristics:

-location, tips of toes, toe webs, heel, pressure areas if confined to bed

-pain, very painful

-depth, deep, often involving joint space

-shape, circular

-base, pale black to dry and gangrene

-edema, minimal unless extremity kept in dependent position constantly to relieve pain

Skin Characteristics:

-pigmentation in gaiter area

-skin thickened and tough

-may be reddish-blue in color

-frequently associated with dermatitis

Skin Characteristics:

-elevation pallor of foot

-dry, shiny skin

-cool-to-cold temperature

-loss of hair over toes and dorsum of foot

-nail thickened and ridged

Circulatory Characteristics:

-pulses, diminished or absent

-temp, cool-to cold

-leg edema, minimal

Circulatory Characteristics:

-pulses, present but may be difficult to palpate through edema

-temp, normal

-edema, moderate to severe
