sea level rise
global changes
rapid change
a rise or fall of the sea level
local changes
slow changes
a rise or fall of the land depending on the sea level
eustatic
isostatic
global ice melt
sea level changes in response to amount of water stored in ice caps
thermal expansion of water
changes in temperature of water = sea water expands at higher temperatures
weight of ice
land rebounds after ice has melted = new mountains and hills
emergence: a fall of sea level that exposes land normally covered by the sea
raised beach
high energy coastline
wave action occurs at water line
change in sea level rapidly (fall in levels)
leaves behind a partly eroded cliff face and long extension of land in front before the sea
marine terraces
a raised beach formation that occurs continuously = many small cliff faces with a wave cut notch underneath

submergent: a rise in sea level flooding a coastline and creating a submerged area. beaches, spits and other landforms disappear under water
ria
a river valley becomes flooded leaving behind a flooded landscape of dotted lands (higher land remains dry but valley is flooded)

fjord
a u shaped valley becomes flooded (high land remains but low lying land in the valley is submerged in water)

dalmatian coastline
a glacial valley is adjacent to the coastline and floods to form dotted round circles of higher land that stick out from the submerged area
