  3. Gender differences have been found between children from a

number of studies. Schneider et al found that girls have more

intimate friendships care and security while boys tend to be more competitive. This could affect how both genders develop in their ability to interact with peers in later life too and sexual selection theories “intra-sexual competition” amongst males may offer a reason for this gender difference. Therefore this theory may be flawed in its assumption that it is early attachment styles alone shaping later relationships. However- Erwin claims sex differences overemphasized and many similarities between the genders over looked.

  4. IDA

  5. Fraley- Meta analysis- finding + correlation between early attachment type and later relationships.

  6. Abuse- Anderson. adult women abused in childhood. displayed negative reactions towards the people who only reminded them of abusive parent. Concluded- the process of transferene could leave abused individuals in childhood to use inappropriate behavioural patterns learned from abusive parent in their interpersonal relationships.

  7. The problem with this however is many studies in

this area have been conducted with US participants and the

results from such samples may not adequately represent other

areas or cultures due to cultural bias. Therefore the theory

may be limited to US children and adults for the most part.

  8. This provides support for the claim abused children have a difficult time developing relationships as the study shthat inappropriate behaviouaral patterns learnt from abusive parent is used in furture relationships.

  9. . STudy- found relationship breakups due to a shift in attatchment types.

  10. Negative effects- Although, adolescent relationships can be healthy for adult. Found evidence against this.

  11. Haynie- romantic involvement as a adolecant ^ some forms of deviance by 35%

  12. Neeman- romantic involvmemt in early to middle adolecents decreased in achademic achievement. But in later adolecents no longer related to negative outcomes.

  13. Suggests timing of romantic relationships in adolecents that determines what influence they will have in later life.

  14. This shows that teenage relationships do effect future,

  15. Roisman- went against madsens findings heavy dating-poorer relationships. and found no effect of adolencents on adult relationships.

  16. Suggests- that adolescent relationships aren't the building blocks for future.
