Evaluation based on CSH

  1. Based on the work of C. West Churchman

    • Identified 12 categories associated with any purposeful system
      • Werner Ulrich turns the categories into operational questions
        • The 12 questions are grouped under 4 sources of influence
          • Motivation
          • Control
          • Expertise
          • Legitimacy
          • All questions are asked in a normative and in a descriptive mode
            • Contrasts the real and ideal situation to make an evaluation
          • The sources of influence are associated to any human activity driven by a sense of purpose
  2. It can be applied to any purposeful system of interest, related with human purpose.

    • Typically used for the evaluation of plans or plannning processes.

      • Reflect and make a note on your own role as evaluator
        • For the SoI identified, attempt to locate where it fits within the three level hierarchy of planning
          • Identify associated stakeholders representing beneficiaries, decision makers, experts, and witnesses
            • Monological & Dialogical Approachs
