Security on the internet

  1. PERSONAL DATA AND PRIVACITY. OUR RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS. MAIN RISKS ON THE NET

    • Personal data and privacy
      • What is a personal data?
        • Is any information concerning identified or identifiable natural persons
          • What is an identifiable person?
            • An identifiable person is one whose identity can be determined, directly or indirectly, by means of any information related to their physical, physiological, psychological, economic, cultural or social identity.
      • Why is it important to protect the data?
        • Because it says who you are, how you are, they can reveal a way to contact you and your hobbies or preferences and consumption habits, they can suggest your origin, they can reveal information about your environment or family and all this can be used to harm you
          • All people who have access to personal data are required to keep secret about them
          • Whenever someone asks for our data or they are going to be the subject of treatment or assignment, they must ask us for their consent
      • What are the personal data?
        • The name and surnames, the address, The ID number (DNI), the telephone number, the Social Security number, the image (videos, photographs ...),the voice, health data as medical tests, labor data such as salary ,biometric data such as fingerprints ,the genetic information ,the email addresses ,IP addresses, the registration of vehicles...
    • Our rights and obligations
      • What is the right to protection of personal data?
        • It is a fundamental right that recognizes people the power to control, dispose and decide on their personal data
          • Right of information. It is the right that I have that, whenever they are going to register and treat my personal data, they inform me previously:
          • Right of access. It is the right to obtain information about whether my personal data are being processed and, if so, what data is being processed and for what purpose, as well as all available information about the origin of such data.
          • Right of rectification. It is the right to have my personal data modified when they are inaccurate or incomplete.
          • Right of opposition. It is the right not to carry out the processing of my personal data, or to cease it, because there is a legitimate and justified reason that justifies it and provided that a law does not provide otherwise.
          • Right of cancellation. It is the right to have my personal data deleted when they are inappropriate or excessive. For example, we can ask a social network to delete our data when we cancel your service.
          • They have not respected my rights. What can I do? First I have to claim my rights by addressing the person in charge of the file or the treatment of my personal data. And only in the case that my claim has not been answered by the person responsible, I can contact the Spanish Agency for Data Protection
    • Main risks on the Net
      • In social networks.
        • If access to our data is not limited, the information will be available to anyone, including seekers It is fundamental, then, that we configure the privacy of our profile well in a social network. Posting information or images of others without their consent results in the violation of the rights of third parties. Theft or identity theft is another risk if we do not take certain precautions, especially in the configuration and use of passwords. A secure password would be the one that includes numbers, uppercase and lowercase and symbols. The publication of excessive personal information in a profile can allow us to identify ourselves and even locate our physical location
      • In emails
        • Electronic mail (e-mail) is the most common channel through which viruses, worms and malware are spread in general. The email address is also the most common way to record the "identity" of a person on the Internet and can be used as a basis to accumulate information about it. For example, we should not include in the address information that reveals the year of birth or that suggests the years we have. When sending emails to multiple recipients we must take special care to ensure confidentiality using the field "With Hidden Copy" (CCO), to avoid that the addresses of all recipients are in sight. We must bear in mind that the fact that we have these addresses does not mean that all the others who receive our message can access them.
      • In the instant messaging services and chats.
        • The conversations that are kept in the chat rooms (virtual places in which participants write messages that appear on the computers of other users instantly) are available to any user who is participating in that same session. In chats it is very difficult to know the real identity of the users that contact through these services. We must avoid, then, offering too much information that can identify us and locate us precisely, even physically.
      • In the search engines.
        • The searchers can index the information contained in web pages and other Internet services, such as social networks, granting them a massive and universal diffusion. They can even cache the textual content of a page that is no longer accessible on the Internet. Teaching sheet Personal Data and Privacy. Our Rights and Obligations. Main Risks in the Network. For the provision of its services, the search engines handle a wide range of data: IP addresses, information recorded by the cookies or the information provided by the user. Profiles of user habits can be made with the processing of these data.
      • On smartphones (geolocation).
        • An intelligent mobile device or smartphone is intimately related to a specific individual. Normally these devices are always carried over, which allows geolocation service providers to have a very close view of the habits and movement patterns of the owner of that phone. With the help of geolocation technologies (GPS and points with Wi-Fi access) these mobile devices can allow them to be monitored and, given that they are particularly linked to their owners, offer a very intimate view of privacy related to their situation geographical and travel habits. One of the risks of using these devices is that the owners are not aware that they may be transmitting their location and to whom.
