What is backing up of data? Backing up refers to the copying of files/data to a different medium in case of a problem with the main secondary storage device.
Why to backup? You should backup in order to safeguard against loss of data due to the failure of the original device; also to safeguard against damage caused by hackers; and finally to use the files in different places, so the original doesn't get damaged.
When an user loads data into a computer, the information is stored temporarily in the RAM, but if the computer is turned off the data would be lost, that's why secondary storage devices enure that data is stored permanently to be used again.
Solid state doesn't have moving parts and all data is retrieved at the same rate no matter where it is stored, they don't rely on magnetic properties
