      1. Below the Cerebrum at the top of the brainstem
    2. Responsible for
      1. Reflexes.

  4. Cerebrum
    1. The largest section
    2. Two major hemispheres

        Integrating sensory information.
      3. Temporal
        Processing auditory information from the ears.
      4. Occipital
        Processing visual information from the eyes.
  5. Medulla Oblongata
    1. It’s the lowest part of the brain stem
    2. It connects with the spinal cord
    3. Responsible for
      1. Regulating heart and blood vessel function,
      2. Digestion
      3. Respiration
      4. Swallowing
      5. Coughing
      6. Sneezing
      7. Blood pressure
    4. Center for respiration.
  6. Diencephalon
    1. Located
      1. Found between the Cerebrum and midbrain.
    2. It contains two structures
      1. The thalamus
        Relay station
        Directs sensory impulses to the Cerebrum
      2. The hypothalamus
        Controls and regulates
        Temperature
        Appetite
        Water balance
        Sleep
        Blood vessel constriction and dilation
        Emotions
        Anger
        Fear
        Pleasure
        Pain
        Affection.
2. The Spinal Cord
  1. is the link between the brain and the nerves in the rest of your body
  2. Four different regions
    1. Nerves cervical
    2. Nerves thoracic
    3. Nerves lumbar
    4. Nerves afferent and efferent
      1. The afferent spinal nerves are responsible for carrying information from the body to the brain.
      2. The efferent spinal nerves are responsible for carrying information from the brain to the body.
The peripheral nervous system
1. The Somatic system
  1. Responnsable for
    1. Carrying motor and sensory information both to and from the CNS
    2. Nearly all voluntary muscle movements
    3. Processing sensory information that arrives via external stimuli
      1. Hearing,
      2. Touch
      3. Sight
    4. Structures that allow this communication to happen between the nerves throughout the body and the CNS
      1. Afferent sensory neurons
      2. Efferent Motor Neurons.
  2. Made up of nerves that connect to
    1. skin
    2. Sensory organs
    3. Skeletal muscles
2. Autonomic System
  1. Sympathetic system
    1. Vital to our survival
    2. Revs up the body
      1. Defend
      2. Escape the threat.
  2. Parasympathetic system
    1. Is the counterbalance to the sympathetic response to danger
      1. Real
      2. Imagined
    2. Once the threat has disappeared, all body systems return to normal.
