Computer Memory

1. Computer processors have two types of memories, fast and slow storage

   • Ram: this memory stores the bits temporarily
   • Rom: is a permanent storage memory
     • There are three types:
       • Magnetic
       • Optical storage
       • Solid state

2. Computers use memories to store data and instructions

   • videos, games, images and instructions

3. The memories have basic units called bits

   • Each bit is stored in a memory cell
     • the bits can take values of 1 and 0
       • the archives and programs have millions of these

4. Memories get damaged quite quickly with:

   • temperature
   • excessive reading and writing of bits
