Scientific method
Is the scientific method a linear process, one step after the other, or is ti iterative, with feedback between its different stages?
- scientists engage in many different activities in many different sequences. Scientific investigations often involve repeating the same steps many times to account for new information and ideas.
- Can we apply the scientific method in our daily life to solve common problems or does it appply only to scientific research?
- Depending on the nature of task on hand, it may be wise to use different versions of the scientific method.
- What is the main characteristic a hypothesis must have?
- Suposse you want to measure the period of a pendulum (the length of time it takes to swing back and forthcompletely). Try to make a hypothesis about the variables involved in this experiment (Identify what the independent, the dependent and the control variables are). Try to give a proper reasoning for this hypothesis.
- Initial strength, height, length of the rope, weight of the pendulum and friction with the air.
- Thought about what experiments you will need to carry out to do the test. Identified the variables in the project. Included the independent and dependent variables in the hypothesis statement.

Make an Observation
- Ask a Question
- Do Background Research
- Form a Hypothesis
- Conduct an Experiment
- Analyze Results and Draw a Conclusion
- Report Your Results
- Checked over and verified by other scientists in a process called peer review.
- Decide whether to accept or reject the hypothesis.
- Report Your Results
- To prove or disprove a hypothesis.
- Analyze Results and Draw a Conclusion
- Specific prediction that you’ll go on to test.
- Conduct an Experiment
- To find out the answer to your question, you need to know what potential answers are. That’s where background research comes in, remembering that not everything you read online is true.
- Form a Hypothesis
- The need to ask a question that hopefully they can answer.
- Do Background Research
- This is why scientists are so curious, they’re always looking for patterns.
