Austin speech theory

  1. Austin reconsiders the senses in saying something is doing something.

    • To consider from the base in how many ways it can be understood that to say something is to do something, or that when we say something we do something and even that because we say something we do something.
      • In every language broadcast, 3 simultaneous acts are carried out according to Austin: the locutionary act, the illocutionary act and the perlocutionary act
  2. The locutionary act

    • As for the locutionary act, the act can be defined as saying something, that is, it corresponds to the content of the broadcast, the locutionary act has to do with the meanings of the words
      • Austin distinguishes three acts
        • The phonic act
          • Consists in the emission of certain words belonging to a language
        • The phonetic act
          • , That is, "the act of emitting certain noises,"
        • The rhetic act
          • The act that consists in using those sounds. with a certain sense and reference, more or less defined
  3. The illocutionary act

    • The ilocutionary act is the act of: Perform an act by saying something, as a different thing from performing the act of saying something.
    • The ilocutionary act has to do with the intention, purpose or purpose that the issuer has when making the issuance, for example, its objective may be a request, an order, etc.
      • For example the next issue, there is a snake on the carpet, that issue clearly realizes that there is a snake on the carpet
        • It remains to be determined whether that emission is a warning, information, etc. The determination of what is meant by this emission corresponds to the ilocutionary act
  4. The perlocutionary act.

    • It consists in producing certain consequences or effects on the feelings, thoughts or actions of the audience, or of who emits the expression or of other people.
      • And it is possible that when we say something we do it with the purpose, intention or design of producing such effects
        • The perlocutionary act corresponds to the effect that the issuer produces in the speaker, in particular, the act of convincing, such as "we have convinced him to go to rest", etc
