CIBERCRIME
WHAT IS A CIBERCRIME ?
- Cybercrimes are all those criminal activities that involve a computer, network device, the internet, and sometimes malicious software as well.
WHAT IS THE OBJETIVE OF CIBERCRIME ?
- Aims to destroy and damage computers, electronic media and internet networks.
TYPES OF CYBERCIME
- CYBERBULLYING
- WHAT IS A CYBERBULLYING ?
- Is using online technology to hurt someone on purpose. In other words, people use the internet to harass and embarras people.
- WHAT DOES IT CONSIST OF ?
- It consists of a single child sending a cruel text message. But it can also be a group of children who post hurtful things about someone to other children. And then those kids forward the messages to more people.
- THE EFFECTS OF CYBERBULLYING
- Causes significant emotional and psychological distress. Children Who have to deal with sush actions can experience anxiety, fear, depression, and low self-esteem. They may also experience physicalsymptoms and lack of success in school.
- Cyberbullying actions are most common among:
- Children and youth.
- Can be seen in some adults.
- In such cases, serious legal santions are imposed on adults, including prison sentences.
- WHAT IS A CYBERBULLYING ?
- GROOMING
- WHAT IS A GROOMING ?
- Is when an adult forges a relationship with a chilb by filling a need in their life or take advantage of a child's vulnerabilities.
- THE MAIN OBJETIVE IS:
- Have a meeting in person.
- This is a process that can occur over a period of time to ultimately exploit children through sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, or trafficking.
- Have a meeting in person.
- The different stages of grooming on the internet can be skipped or the order changed, depending on the responses of the potencial victim.
- THEY ARE:
- FRIENDSHIP FORMING PHASE:
- This is the first stage of initial contact. It usually involves casual conversation about the topic of a chat room or something on their profile. The goal is to find a person that will continue to chat with them over any topic.
- RELATIONSHIP FORMING PHASE:
- In this stage, the conversation usually gets more personal in nature, less casual but not necessarily sexual at this point. They may establish secrets at this or that tactic may be used in the risk assessment phase. They may send gifts at this point or in any of the other stages.
- RISK ASSESSMENT PHASE:
- At this point, they may bring up sex, drinking, drugs, send images or try to have a phone call. This is an attempt to see what the person is open to, if they shut down, stop talking, or dont't like an image that was sent, they will back off for a while to build the relationship before introducing the subject again. Secrets often fall into this category and are considered a "good risk assessment" by predators as secrets help build trust.
- SEXUAL PHASE:
- This is when the conversation about a potential meeting has turned to sex. It can be through coercion by threatening exposure or by the relationship going to the level of feeling love for the person.
- EXCLUSIVITY PHASE:
- This is when the person attempts to pull them away from their other online or personal friends. They get upset when the person isn't online, or opts to do things away from the computer. A child's increased "need" to be online is an indicator thet this may be happening.
- FRIENDSHIP FORMING PHASE:
- THEY ARE:
- THERE ARE SIX SIGNS OF GROOMING AS:
- Sending your child many messages.
- Telling the child to keep their conversations a secret.
- Asking questions to see if a child is alone in a room.
- Sending sexual messages that could be disguised as compliments or questions about past sexual ezperience.
- Trying to get personal information about the child or where they live.
- Mapulating children to send photos or blackmailing them with photos the child may have already sent.

- SEXTING
- WHAT IS A SEXTING ?
- Sexting is sending sexually explicit messages, photos, or videos via cell phone, computer, or any digital device. It also includes text messages that discuss or propose sex acts.
- CAUSES

- All the consequences stem from a single event: the leakage of shared content.
- These include arrests of teens who shared photos of themselves or other underage teens.

- ZOOMBOMBING
- HOW CAN YOU PROTECT YOURSELF FROM ZOOMBOMBING ?
- The FBI has recommendations for making your Zooming more secure, including:
- Do not make meetings or classrooms public. In Zoom, there are two options to make a meeting private: You can require a meeting password or use the waiting-room feature and control the admittance of guests.
- Do not share a link to a teleconference or classroom on a publicly available social-media post. Provide the link directly to specific people.
- Manage screen-sharing options. In Zoom, change screen-sharing to “Host Only.”
- Make sure that users are using the updated version of remote access/meeting applications.
- The FBI has recommendations for making your Zooming more secure, including:
- WHAT HAS ZOOM SAID ABOUT IT ?
- A Zoom spokesperson told CNN that the company is “deeply upset to hear about the incidents involving this type of attack and we strongly condemn such behavior,” and that they “appreciate all efforts to raise awareness around how to best prevent these kinds of attacks.” Zoom also said it began “actively educating users on how they can protect their meetings and help prevent incidents of harassment”.
- WHAT IS A ZOOMBOMBING ?
- It is a type of cyberattack; it describes when someone hijacks a Zoom teleconferencing chat.
- WHAT THE USERS SAY?
- Users say their meetings have been interrupted by strangers drawing offensive imagery onscreen, sharing pornographic images and sharing the personal information of people in the chat, or taunting them with hate speech and threats.

- Malware
- WHAT IS A MALWARE ?
- is a blanket term for viruses, worms, trojans and other harmful computer programs hackers use to wreak destruction and gain access to sensitive information.
- TYPES OF MALWARE:
- There are a number of different ways of categorizing malware; the first is by how the malicious software spreads.
- A worm is a standalone piece of malicious software that reproduces itself and spreads from computer to computer.
- A trojan is a program that cannot reproduce itself but masquerades as something the user wants and tricks them into activating it so it can do its damage and spread.
- A virus is a piece of computer code that inserts itself within the code of another standalone program, then forces that program to take malicious action and spread itself.
- There are a number of different ways of categorizing malware; the first is by how the malicious software spreads.
- potential attack techniques used by malware:
- escalation to gain remote administrator access:
- Spyware is installed on a computer without its owner’s knowledge to monitor their activity and transmit the information to a third party; In essence, it spies on your behavior as you use your computer, and on the data you send and receive, usually with the purpose of sending that information to a third party. A keylogger is a specific kind of spyware that records all the keystrokes a user makes—great for stealing passwords.
- Scareware is fake anti-virus software that pretends to scan and find malware/security threats on a user’s device so that they will pay to have it removed.
- Ransomware stops users from accessing their devices and demands that they pay a ransom through certain online payment methods to regain access.
- escalation to gain remote administrator access:
- WHAT IS A MALWARE ?
- PHISHING
- WHAT IS A PHISHING ?
- It is the crime of tricking people into sharing confidential information such as passwords and credit card numbers. As with fishing, there is more than one way to catch a victim, but there is a phishing tactic that is the most common.
- HOW DOES IT WORK ?
- Victims receive a message that mimics a trusted person or organization. When the victim opens the message, they find a heavy message to scare them, with the intention of weakening their good judgment by instilling fear. The message demands that the victim go to a website and act immediately. you click the link, you are sent to a website that is a copycat of the legitimate one. From here, your data is copied which reaches the attacker, who uses it to steal identities, loot bank accounts, and sell personal information.
- HOW TO AVOID BECOMING A PHISHING STATISTIC:
- • Always check the spelling of the URLs in email links before you click or enter sensitive information
- • Watch out for URL redirects, where you're subtly sent to a different website with identical design.
- • If you receive an email from a source you know but it seems suspicious, contact that source with a new email, rather than just hitting reply.
- • Don't post personal data, like your birthday, vacation plans, or your address or phone number, publicly on social media.
