SCIENTIFIC METHOD

1. "Is a process for experimentation that is used to explore observations and answer questions".

2. The scientific method is composed of six phases

   • 1. Observation
     • In this phase, the phenomenon is examined and analyzed to obtain the information necessary to determine the study set.
   • 2. Problem Statement
     • The researcher must formulate a question, that is, pose the problem to be solved with the research.
   • 3. Formulation of the hypothesis
     • It consists of providing one or more possible answers to the problem raised.
   • 4. Experimentation
     • Carry out experiments that show that the hypothesis is accepted or rejected, these experiments have to be repeated many times to validate the answer.
   • 5. Conclusions
     • "Se establecen conclusiones según los resultados analizados. Así, puede suceder que los resultados confirmen las hipótesis planteadas al principio, por lo que se podrán formular leyes o teorías. Por el contrario, si los resultados rechazan la hipótesis, hay que revisar el experimento y formular nuevas hipótesis"(20 minutos, 2020).
   • 6. Report the results
     • "La última fase del método científico consistirá en publicar y compartir las conclusiones obtenidas con un doble objetivo. Por un lado, ampliar el conocimiento de la comunidad científica en general y, por otro, hacerlas públicas para que otros científicos puedan revisar y estudiar dichas conclusiones" (Universidad Internacional de Valencia, 2017).

3. What is the contribution of the scientific method to the development of knowledge?

   • "Throughout history, man has faced countless obstacles and problems to unravel the secrets of nature, both to live with it, and to live with it in "perfect" harmony. In order to overcome these problems, it has used very diverse strategies, which gave way to the formalization of procedures that, ultimately, are nothing but the scientific method itself"(Ruiz, 2007).
