1. ACTIVE AND PASSIVE SECURITY

   • If we are going to use a computer on a network, we must:
     • Know how to use it
     • Know what security tools are available to us
     • Apply a set of basic security rules
   • Active security, to refer the set of actions aimed at protecting the computer
   • Passive security, aims to minimise the impact of possible computer damage

2. SECURITY ON THE COMPUTER

   • Malware is software developed for malicious purposes, such as viruses
     • Virus
       • Is a program that installs itself on the computer without the users consent
     • Keylogger
       • Attepts to obtain and memorise keystrokes.
     • Worm
       • The purpose is to flood the system memory by reproducing itself
     • Spyware
       • Trojans, adware and hijackers
   • More terminology
     • Hackers
       • There are white good hackers and black bad hackers
     • Crackers
       • People who try and change how a comercial programm works
     • Cookies
       • Text files that are saved to th computer by the browser when we visit a website
     • Pharming
       • It can replace a bank website to obtein the vitim password
     • Spam
       • Messages that flood the network in order to adversite products.
   • Software to protect de computer
     • Antivirus
       • A program that analyses the different units and devices and incoming and outgoing data flow, checking the code of files.
     • Firewall
       • A system that controls and filters incoming and outgoing network traffic
     • Proxy
       • Is software intalled on a computer that functions as an entry port, it can be configured as a firewall.
     • Passwords
       • Can helps protect the security of a file, folder or computer on local network or internet.
