Some and any

Some and any

1. in geral we use some (somebody/someone...) in positive sentences and any (anybody...) in negative

   • we bought some flower/ we didn't buy any flowers

2. we use both in questions. we use some to talk about a person or thing that we know exists, or we think exists

3. we use some in questions when we offer or ask for things

   • Ex: can i have some sugar, please?

4. but in most questions, we use any. we don't know if the thing or person exists

5. we often use any after if

   • ex: let me know if you need something?

6. we also use any with meaning 'it doesn't matter which'

   • come and see me any time you want

7. somebody/ someone/ anybody/ anyone are singular words
