RELATIVE CLAUSES MINDMAP

  1. The following relative pronouns are used to create relative clases:

    • WHICH
    • WHO
    • WHEN
    • WHERE
    • WHOSE
    • WHAT
    • WHY
  2. Defining or Non-defining?

    • NON-DEFINING RELATIVE CLAUSES give us extra information about the subject/object of the sentence. We can easily identify it becasuse of the use of commas. Additionally, 'that' cannot be used in these clauses to replace 'who', 'whihc' or 'when'.
    • DEFINING RELATIVE CLAUSES give us essential information about the subject or object of the clause, so we need the clause to properly identify them. If subject and object coincide,we may omit the relative. Also, the pronoun 'that' can replace 'who', 'which' and 'when',
